Dora Lea Irene Nagles

Dora Lea Irene Nagles entered into her eternal rest and was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, where she is now reunited with her beloved husband, the late Frank August Nagles Jr. A woman of profound dignity, Mrs. Nagles’ life was a testament to her unwavering devotion to public service. She will be remembered as a steady heart and a tenacious spirit, focused on service and love for others.

Mrs. Nagles followed her husband during his career in the U.S. Army, stationed stateside in Missouri, Texas, Alabama, North Carolina, and finally to Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. She also accompanied him oversees to Yokata Air Force Base in Japan, Nuremburg and Frankfurt, Germany and South Korea. In her travels, she served in numerous positions within the Civil Service, finally devoting 27 years in Human Resources at the Veterans Affairs hospital. Her heart for service started with volunteering with the Girl Scouts of America, dedicating numerous years as an Election Supervisor at the Columbia County Board of Elections and serving countless hours with Augusta Urban Ministries preparing taxes.

Mrs. Nagles leaves behind a devoted legacy of two daughters, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Sherry Lee Newman and her husband, Michael; her legacy continues through their three sons: Christopher Newman and his wife, Angela; Jamie Nicholas Newman; and Stephen Newman and his wife, Sarah, of Augusta, Georgia. She is also survived by her daughter, Ann Marie Nagles Urban as well as her granddaughter, Jennifer Ann, and her grandson, Matthew Paul and his wife Megan, of Littleton, Colorado; and by her brother, Roger Best. Mrs. Nagles was extremely proud of her nine great-grandchildren, Noah, David, Jaden, Gabriel, Kellan, Reese, Micah, Collins and Jackson. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Nagles was also preceded in death by her sister, Norma Kuczynski.

A service to honor her life will be held in the chapel at Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road, Augusta, Georgia. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 15, 2026 during a period of visitation beginning at 2:00 PM, with the funeral service following at 3:00 PM. Mrs. Nagles will be interred alongside her husband in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia honoring their shared life and enduring bond.
