Augusta, GA – Douglas Earl Gilmore, 81, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025.
Born on September 28, 1943, in California to Margaret Jordan and Dell Gilmore, Doug lived a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. He earned his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Texas and dedicated his entire career to the defense industry, working for Texas Instruments and Raytheon.
Doug married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Marilyn, and together they built a beautiful life and family. He was a devoted father to his three children: Brenda (Tom) Duke, Becky (Darren) Bennett, and Bryan (Sarah) Gilmore; and a proud grandfather to Colby Duke, Caleb Duke, Carlie Duke, Connor Duke, Chris Bennett, Brittany (Bennett) Nguyen, Madison (Bennett) Johnson, Megan Bennett, Lauren Bennett, Hayden Gilmore, and Carter Gilmore; and great-grandfather to Audrey Bennett and Raelyn Bennett. He is also survived by his sister, Marlee Payne.
A man of many passions, Doug’s love for computers & HAM radio spanned decades. He was an avid reader, cherished family vacations, and took joy in anything that brought his children and grandchildren together. During his last years, he valued his weekly breakfasts with his fellow Christian “brothers.” Faith was central to his life - he was active in the Catholic Church for many years, serving as an usher at Mass and volunteering with the St. Vincent de Paul charity.
Those who knew Doug will remember him as the most selfless man - always putting his family first and working tirelessly to provide for them. He adored Marilyn beyond measure and was her steadfast partner until her passing 11 years ago. His life was a testament to the value of family, devotion, and quiet generosity.
Doug was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marilyn Gilmore.
Doug was the most selfless husband, father, and grandfather we have ever known, and we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace with the Lord - reunited with Marilyn, the love of his life.
