Dykins "Sonny" McBurney, Jr.

Entered into rest on December 4, 2024, Mr. Dykins “Sonny” McBurney, Jr., loving husband of 54 years to Elizabeth D. McBurney. Other family members include his children: Cynthia Diane Ranck (Bob) of Georgia, Terry Victor McBurney (Jennifer) of Texas, Sheryl Leeker, Scott Leeker of Connecticut, and Lisa M. Childers (Buddy) of Augusta. Many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sonny was predeceased by his parents: Dykins McBurney, Sr. and Nina Katherine James McBurney; sister: Nanette McBurney Rennison; his daughter: Carolyn Elizabeth Dixon.

Sonny was born in Thomson, Georgia, but lived most of his life in Augusta. Growing up he worked for his father as a Brick Mason and continued to learn the construction business until he became a Project Superintendent with Centex and Balfour Beatty, building hospitals all over the United States. He was a loving husband, father and family man. He was a 32-degree Mason of the Scottish Rites.

The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son on December 12, 2024, at 11:00 am with Rev. Steve Murell officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 9:30 am prior to the service at the funeral home.
