Edwin Latimer Douglass, Jr. (Edo) aged 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on July 25, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Anne Lindgren Douglass.
Edo was born in Augusta, GA on May 25, 1934 to Mildred Garrett Douglass and Edwin Latimer Douglass and the grandson of the noted Augusta educator, T. Harry Garrrett. He was a graduate of Richmond Academy and Davidson College. At Davidson he was a member of Beta Theta Pi, ROTC, and the men’s golf team; Edo was recognized with the Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 2005.
After graduating from Davidson with a B.A. in Economics in 1955, Edo was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and stationed in Seoul, South Korea. He became the personal aide-de-camp to General William Fitzsche, the commander of the 25th Army Infantry Division.
Mr. Douglass was a businessman and entrepreneur, who owned several businesses in the CSRA, including Augusta Hardwood Lumber Co., Augusta Truck Sales, Pheonix Oil Co., Bennett Gas Co., Dixie Ice, and Radio Cab. Additionally, he was the president of Glynn Farms Inc. for over 50 years.
He served as President of the Southern Hardwood Lumber Association, Augusta Country Club, and the Georgia-Carolina Boy Scouts of America for which he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. In addition, he served on the boards of Augusta Preparatory Day School, First National Bank, First Union Bank, the Georgia Forestry Association, Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and ASU Foundation.
Edo was a third-generation member and Elder at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mr. Douglass was a member of the Augusta Assembly, Heritage Club, Augusta Country Club, Augusta Golf Association, Sea Island Club, Ocean Forest Golf Club, and Augusta National Golf Club.
In addition to his wife, Edo is survived by his daughter Anne D. King (Michael), his son Edwin L. Douglass, III (Danny), five grandchildren: Will King (Addy), Anne Maxwell Douglass, Lucy D. Kelly (John), Edo Douglass IV (Elizabeth), and Margaret Douglass, and one great grandchild, George King.
The memorial service will be held at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2261 Walton Way Augusta, GA 30909, on July 29, 2025 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:00 am in the Congregational Life Center at the Church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Augusta Golf Association.
Following the service, the Douglasses invite the entire family and all out-of-town visitors to a reception in the Congregational Life Center.
