He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 22 years and mother of four of his children, Rosetta Bailey Fox.
He was also preceded in death by his devoted and cherished wife of 49 years and the mother of his younger daughter, Linda Jane Gross Fox.
His surviving children are Larry Craig Fox of Salem, CT, Cheryl Fox Martha (Kip) of East Greenwich, RI, Michael Dean Fox (Loretta) of Killingworth, CT, Kevin Andrew Fox (Heidi), of Topsfield, MA, and Susan Jane Miller (Jeff) of Augusta, GA.
Also surviving are grandchildren Kelly (Adam), Laurel and Craig Fox; Julia Chalifour (Andy) and Melanie Martha (Zakaria); Todd and Sean Fox; Zachary (Liv) and Jessica Fox; and Grant (Kaitlin), Evan (Molly) and Cole Miller (Anna). He is also survived by seven great grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his grandson, Miles Martha.
Russell was one of thirteen children born to Marwood Theadore Fox (1893-1959) and Beulah Fred Nickens Fox (1900- 1987). One brother, Lyndell Ray Fox (Nancy), survives him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Margaret Elizabeth Fox, Cecil Pearl Fox, Warden Hardin Fox (Lucille), Zola Elaine Fox Steinbrink (Richard), Frank Jewell Fox (Ruby), Myrtle Mae Fox Miller (Bert), Thomas Theadore Fox (Vera), Wayne Dale Fox, and Rufus Eugene Fox.
As a lifelong nature enthusiast, Russell was happiest outside- hiking, camping, riding motorcycles with Linda all across the country, planting and gardening. At 92, he reluctantly gave up mowing his own grass. He continued his weekly guitar sessions with friends, book club and card games.
Otherwise, he was pursuing his many interests and practicing self-taught skills as a mechanic, builder, arborist and musician. He usually had his guitar or a book in his hands. An ardent reader and dedicated learner, Russell proudly achieved a long-sought goal, earning a bachelor's degree in History at 58.
Russell served in the US Navy during the Korean War (1951- 1955). Upon his return, he began a job as a machinist that would unfold into a four decade career in management at Dana Corporation. After retiring, he and Linda moved to TN near the Smoky Mountain National Park, where he was deeply involved as a volunteer. Russell and Linda next settled in Augusta, GA in 2013.
Russell was cremated and will be interred at Fairview Cemetery in Fairview, IN.
No service is planned.
