Evans, GA – Gerald E. Baygents, 82, entered into the presence of his savior on February 13, 2026. Gerald was born on December 27, 1943 in Jackson, Tennessee to Labertice and Macon Baygents. As a lifelong learner, Gerald attended Georgia Southern University receiving a BA in 1965, and receiving a Masters degree in 1968. Gerald received his Education Specialist degree in1979 from the University of Georgia.
Gerald was a dedicated educator who taught and coached for 10 years in Houston and Richmond Counties, Later, he was an elementary school principal for 21 years in Richmond County, Georgia. After he retired from a career in education in 1996, he was the human resources director and tourism director for seven years in McDuffie County, Georgia.
Gerald was predeceased by his father, Macon Baygents, his mother, Labertice Lowe Jiachetti, and his brother Ronald Baygents. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Krantz Baygents, his son, Gerry Baygents, PhD., his beloved sister Irma Jean Roberts (Gerry), by his stepdaughter, Lily Armstrong (Rodney) and stepson, Ben Herman (Misty) and many loving nieces and nephews and step grandchildren.
Gerald‘s greatest passions were the University of Georgia football team and playing golf. He attended many UGA football games and often went on out-of-town golfing trips with his many friends.
Gerald worked for CBS at the Masters golf tournament as a spotter on Green 10 for 33 years. Gerald was particularly pleased that Vin Scully, a famous CBS sports announcer, used one of his quips about Seve Ballesteros on air during the Masters in the 1980s.
The memorial service will be held Friday, February 20, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Pastor Wade Sosebee officiating.
