Augusta, GA – Grace Roberts Brigham entered into rest on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at the age of 99. She was born in Sandersville, Georgia.
After high school graduation at the age of 17 in September 1944, during World War II, Ms. Brigham entered the United States Cadet Nurse Corps training program in Milledgeville State Hospital of Nursing. She completed the US Cadet Nurse training in September 1947 and became a professional Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia in 1948. World War II ended in 1945 during her US Cadet Nurse training.
Ms. Brigham began her career as a Registered Nurse working private duty and at various hospitals including the Veterans Affairs Lenwood Division in Augusta, Georgia where she worked until her retirement. Ms. Brigham believed in continuing education and remained certified with her professional Nursing credentials from 1948 until her passing. Governor Brian Kemp recognized her in 2025 as the longest licensed registered nurse in Georgia. The Governor stated “The State of Georgia thanks you for your courage, dedicated service and the sacrifices you made along the way. You have been a great asset to your hospital, community and state.”
Family members include her children: Nick Brigham (Nancy), Marcia Lowry (Robert Pitcher), Mike Brigham (Shannon), and Brenda Norris (Don); grandchildren: Heath Lowry (Angel), Scott Lowry (Shannon), Brandon Lowry (Jennifer), Michael John Brigham, Brittnye Turner (Gerald), Nolan Norris (Charisa), and Kayla Gittens; 16 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter: Debra Lynn Brigham; and granddaughter: Erica Brigham Porter; father: William Augustus Roberts; mother: Lizzie Inez Johnson; sister: Laverne Hendrix; and brother: Lewis Roberts.
The funeral service will be held Monday, April 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomas Poteet & Son Chapel with Rev. Tom Kalliokoski officiating. The pallbearers will be Heath Lowry, Scott Lowry, Brandon Lowry, Michael John Brigham, Nolan Norris, and Gerald Turner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Black Springs Baptist Church, 673 Sparta Hwy, NE, Milledgeville, Georgia or to your favorite charity.
