Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Mr. Gregory “Gregg” Eugene McFeely, 70, loving husband of 41 years to Elaine Poppell McFeely.
Gregg was born to the late Robert A. “Mac” McFeely and Eunice Prescott McFeely in Augusta, GA. He is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law and friend Christopher Allan Smith Sr., and brother-in-law and friend Paul Afton Hightower. Gregg was born and raised in Augusta, GA and certainly left his mark in this town by being a friend to all and a source of constant laughter and good nature to all who knew him. He was deeply involved in his children’s lives and took such pride in everything they did and accomplished. In his spare time, Gregg could be found on his family land in Waynesboro hunting and enjoying nature with his son, son-in-law, and relatives. He had a special place in his heart for UGA football and the outdoors, religiously filling up his bird feeders, and taking perfect care of his roses. After retiring from SRS after 38 years in nuclear operations, he traveled with his loving wife and spent all of his time being the best and most devoted father and grandfather the world had ever seen. He was affectionately known by his grandson as “Pappy”.
Family members, in addition to his wife, include his children: Brooke McFeely Nickelson and husband Jimmy, and Gregory Ryan McFeely and his wife Lyndsey; grandson: Noah Mac Nickelson; soon to be granddaughter: Eleanor Elaine “Nellie” McFeely; sisters: Julie M. Anson and her husband Gary, Jeannie M. Hightower, and Lynda M. Smith and her husband the late Chris Smith Sr.; cousin Laura M. Dent and her husband Michael; brother-in-law Cliff Poppell and his wife Windy, brother-in-law Kuenn Poppell, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gregg’s family would like to extend special appreciation to PCM and their wonderful staff and nurses JoAn and Melinda, as well as Empyrean Hospice and their wonderful staff and nurses Nicole, Lauren, Faith, Crystal, and Vonda.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church with Rev. Terri Degenhardt officiating. The family will receive friends in The Parish Hall at the church following the service.
