Evans, GA – Mr. Harry Calvin Geer, 95, died July 29, 2025, at his home at Brandon Wilde. A native of Augusta, he was born March 18, 1930, to the late William Frederick “Fred” Geer and Ida Gilmore Fuller Geer. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Anita Taylor Geer; brothers: Dr. William Dudley Geer of Birmingham, Alabama and Rev. Robert Stokley Geer of Evans, and sister: Mrs. Margaret Geer (Rupert) Sledge of Arcadia, Louisiana.
Mr. Geer attended Houghton Elementary school and graduated in 1949 from the Academy of Richmond County where he was a member of the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps, Business Manager and writer for the student newspaper – The Musketeer, and member of the B-Varsity football team.
He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church since joining and being baptized on September 20,1942, and ordained a Deacon on January 15, 1956. He met his future wife, Anita, in the Singles Sunday School class and they were married on September 15, 1956. Through the years he served on numerous committees, as song leader for the Youth 7 Sunday School class, Men on Mission, and was named Deacon Emeritus January 12, 1997. He was a long-time member of the Crusaders Sunday School class.
Mr. Geer worked for the Citizens and Southern National Bank before joining the Augusta District of Prudential Insurance Company on Augusta 3, 1953, where he became a Licensed Life Underwriter and member of the National Association of Security Dealers as an agent, then Sales Manager; he received numerous President’s Citations and Leadership Round Table Awards for sales performance and was a member of the International Honors Club. He retired from full-time responsibilities at Prudential in 1993 after 40 years of service and continued to work part-time as Agent Emeritus until August 3, 2005.
He was a charter member of the Forest Hills Lions Club on November 20,1957, serving as President, Vice-President, and Treasurer and was named a Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions International Foundation in 1994. He continued his membership after the club merged with the Augusta Lions Club in 1998 and was a volunteer at the club’s annual fundraiser the Willard Prior Memorial Golf Tournament.
During the 1950’s, Mr. Geer served as Secretary of the Independent Party of Augusta during which time he made bids for Augusta’s First Ward City Council seat in 1959 and 1961. He also began his thirty-six years of service as a volunteer Scorer for The Masters Tournament. He was a member of the Geer Family Association and the Callaway Family Association.
Mr. Geer is survived by four sons: Capt. David Calvin Geer, USN (Ret.) and daughter-in-law Kalynn Warbington Geer of Cumming, GA; James Fooshe Geer and Samuel Taylor Geer of Evans; and Paul Dudley Geer of Atlanta; two granddaughters and families: Mrs. Jennifer Geer Byers, husband Jonathan Killian Byers, and great-grandson: Theodore Churchill Byers of Portsmouth, Virginia; Mrs. Christina Geer Wilson, husband W. David Wilson, and great-granddaughters: Ella Louise Wilson and Millie Geer Wilson of Cumming.
A funeral service will be conducted from the Storey Chapel of First Baptist Church on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Rev. Dr. Will Dyer will officiate. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Body of Deacons of First Baptist Church, Augusta Lions Club, and the Crusaders Sunday School class.
