Martinez, GA – Hance Williamson Jr, 84, passed on to be with our Lord on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, loving husband of 57 years to Brenda Long Williamson. His parents were Hance H Williamson, Sr and Cleo N Williamson. His brother, William C Williamson, lives in CA.
Hance was born in Rome, GA on December 2, 1941. He graduated from East Rome High, attended Shorter College and graduated from Berry College. After graduation he was accepted into Navy OCS. While stationed in Charleston, SC, he met and later married his wife, Brenda. After the Navy he started his career with IBM as a Systems Engineer. He started with IBM in Charleston, SC, moved his family to Columbia, SC, to Marietta, GA, and then to Augusta, GA in 1981. When he retired from IBM he immediately went to work for an IBM Business Partner. He retired from Mainline in 2008.
His family was his pride and joy. Family members include his children: Angela Osborne (Mike Heimerl), Brendan Williamson (Anahita), Carey Williamson (Amy), and Curtis Williamson (Ashleigh); grandchildren: Mackenzie Osborne (Sven Barr), Lily Williamson, Conner Williamson, Vance Williamson, and Aubrey Williamson.
His passion was playing golf. He started playing when he was 12 at Callier Springs Country Club, a hilly 9-hole course in Rome. He was their course champion in 1976. He lettered in golf at Berry College. He volunteered with the Master’s for 25 years in Scoring and was involved in running the initial computer scoring system used by the Master’s. He continued to play until Alzheimer’s took away his ability to play. Thank you to the Thursday Golf Group at FBCA for picking him up when he was no longer able to drive himself.
Hance was an active member at First Baptist Church of Augusta. He coached basketball, worked with the youth, was a greeter in the preschool building, elected a Deacon, helped with Food Services, served on several committees, and served as President of the Caring Coed Community. He worked with the Men of Missions after Katrina in Gulfport and in the Appalachian area.
The Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. in Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Will Dyer officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Memorial Gardens at First Baptist Church of Augusta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
