Martinez, GA – Harriet Ann Brown Benjamin passed away January 24, 2024, after a short illness. She was with family who loved her very much. Harriet was 91 years old. She refused to age and never let anyone see her with gray hair.
Harriet is survived by her husband of 72 years, John James “Jack” Benjamin and two children, Katherine Elizabeth “Beth” Parrish (Hugh) of Appling, Georgia and David Alan Benjamin (Susan) of Suwanee, Georgia; five grandchildren, Benjamin Ross Parrish (Heather), Jonathan Hammond Parrish (Emily), Christopher Alan Parrish (Deanna), Lauren Kate Benjamin, and Emily Rachel Richer (Mark) and eight great grandchildren, Ethan Ross Parrish, Elizabeth Ashley Parrish, Charles Ryan Parrish, Emma Katherine Parrish, Katelyn Grace Parrish, Carter Mason Parrish, Carson Reid Parrish, and Jason Reagan Schingler. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents Harry Andrew and Blanche Crosland Brown, and her sister and brother-in-law Evelyn Marie and Robert G. Harrell.
Harriet and Jack lived in Augusta, Georgia before moving to the Atlanta area and then, back to Augusta after retirement. She was a member of Martinez United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Augusta Women’s Club. Harriet worked in data processing before moving on to clerical work. She retired from Lockheed Martin Aerospace. While living in the Atlanta area, she and Jack had great times with friends in the Southern Bicycle League. Harriet was a devoted daughter to her mother who lived with her and Jack in their home until her death at age 89.
Harriet enjoyed her retirement in her home in Evans, Georgia. She loved for her family to stop by and visit. She loved to feed people, always willing to prepare them a quick treat to eat. In 2021, she and Jack moved to Thrive Senior Living. She was fortunate to have so many loving and caring staff members. The family would like to thank the staff at Thrive, Sandra McCord, staff from Caring from the Heart, Enhabit Hospice, and Georgia House Calls for the love and care given to Mom and Grammy. “Ladybug” was loved by them all.
Harriet’s cremains will rest at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. Jack served in the United States Army 2nd Division Signal Core in the Korean War. His service earned her an admission into the Georgia National Cemetery, and he will eventually join her there. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
