Harry F. Yonce

Augusta, GA – Mr. Harry F. Yonce, 95, beloved husband of the late Eutelle V. Yonce, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 19, 2025. He was born on July 21, 1930, in Jackson County to the late Andrew E. and Pauline Whitlock Yonce. He was raised in Jefferson, Georgia.

In 1951, he was drafted into the Army and served in the Medical Corps during the Korean Conflict. Later that year, during an intense assault on his platoon, Mr. Yonce fearlessly crawled into the open embattled terrain to administer first aid to three wounded soldiers in his platoon. He then carried them to a covered position where they were evacuated. Following this courageous action, he again moved over exposed terrain and administered aid to wounded men of another unit until they were all evacuated. He was awarded the Silver Star for his gallantry in action. He was a hero to many throughout his life.

Mr. Yonce worked at the Savannah River Plant for 35 years, retiring in 1989 as a Senior Supervisor in C Area.

Longtime faithful member of Warren Baptist Church, Mr. Yonce served as a greeter for many years and was a member of the Jenkins Life Group. He was a godly man who loved his Lord and his church. He rarely missed a Sunday up until a few weeks of his death.

Mr. Yonce cherished his family. He is survived by his sons, Richard F. Yonce (Annah) and Steven B. Yonce (Karen), his grandchildren, Phillip Yonce, Travis Yonce (Brandy) and Lindsey Yonce, and great-granddaughter, Ava Yonce.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working in his garden. He also loved to exercise and ride his bike on the Augusta Canal and continued these activities into his late 80s.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Home Chapel with his loving nephew, the Rev. Andrew Silman, officiating.
