“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
Mrs. Helen A. Bussey, 94 years old, of Augusta, Georgia received her angel wings on May 11, 2026 at her home surrounded by family. Helen’s faith was an important part of her life. She lived her life daily as a testament to grace, kindness, and a steadfast belief in the Lord. Helen loved music and dancing; but always found the most joy in her family. Affectionately known as Mama, Grandma and Meema, Helen will be remembered for her radiant spirit, selfless, nurturing, and unconditional love. Helen loved her Georgia Bulldogs, Christmas decorations being everywhere ….. especially her Santas and Bulldog tree ……., the Bill Gaithers Saturday Night Gospel Show and Chick-fil-A peach & strawberry milkshakes. Helen enjoyed the lake life where she was a founding member of the Thunderbird Boating and Camping Club. Her life was truly a blessing; she was loved beyond words and is missed beyond measure.
Preceding Helen in death was her husband of 50 years, William “Bill” Bussey, Sr., her parents and one sister. Helen is survived by her children: Tommy (Donna) of Fayetteville, GA; Cindy, Augusta, GA; Mitchel (Lisa) of Martinez, GA; and Pam (Kris) Augusta, GA. Helen is also survived by her five grandchildren: Michelle, Atlanta GA; Travis (Anna) of Fayetteville, GA; Tyler, Martinez, GA; Ryan (Katie) of Acworth, GA and Jonathan, Augusta, GA; and her four great-grandchildren, Ford, Wells, Addison, and Elodie. Additional family members include one brother, Ronald Alberson of Beech Island, SC; and one niece Janice (Jan) Jones of Hephzibah, GA.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Jeremy Wells and the Staff at Augusta Oncology, and to Dr. Danny Newman and his staff, for their compassionate care and unwavering support. The family also expresses their appreciation to Trinity Hospice and The Southern Touch Home Care for providing excellent care during Helen’s final days on Earth.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity on the Hill Chapel with the Reverend Roy McVeigh officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be the grandchildren.
