Henry B. "Hank" Chavous III

Henry Bostick “Hank” Chavous III passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024, at the age of 62, surrounded by loved ones. He navigated his short battle with cancer gracefully and courageously, stating that his immediate peace “was given to him in a way only the Lord could provide.”

Hank was born in Augusta, GA to Henry “Bostick” Chavous II and Rachel Chavous in 1961. Most of his childhood included time well spent with family and friends at Clarks Hill Lake. It was also during his childhood that he first met the love of his life, Kay. The two fell in love at the young ages of 17 and 18. While earning his engineering degree from Southern Polytechnic State University, Hank spent his additional time with two of his loves: Kay and sports. The love shared between Hank and Kay grew into what became an admirable 41 years of marriage. Together, they had two children: Henry Bostick “HB” Chavous IV (Lyndsey) and Kaylyn Chavous Earl (Madison); as well as four grandchildren: Jonah, Amelia, Mathias and Emma Kay. Beloved family members in addition to his wife, children, grandchildren and mother, include his sister: Mary Sarver (Ken), and several extended family members.

Hank was a true family man, who did not hesitate to put his family’s needs above his own. His greatest joys in life involved making his wife and children happy, investing his time in each of their dreams and aspirations. This included but was not limited to coaching his children in various sports, managing concerts, and providing support for each new endeavor. His greatest joys in life were heightened once he became “Pops” to his grandchildren. Weekends were a special time he shared with them.

In addition to spending his weekends with family, Hank spent Saturdays in the fall cheering on his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Many years ago, you could have found him in the bowling alley, where his interest for the sport was shared with his father, Bostick. As the years continued, his time at the bowling alley was replaced by his time coaching on the ball field. He was a faithful member of West Acres Baptist Church for many years, where he was a deacon. Hank and his family later became involved members of Freedom Bible Church.

During the week, Hank could be found at his home office that he called “control central”, where he performed his Program Manager responsibilities. He was a hard worker, dedicated to his job and to those he worked with over the years. Hank was a natural mentor to many.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 3:00 P.M. at West Acres Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Harmon officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. at the church.

As Hank was an avid UGA football fan, his family asks that everyone who is planning to attend his celebration of life wears red and black.
