Augusta, GA – Jacquelyn Rountree Andrews entered into rest on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
An Augusta native, Jackie was born during the Great Depression and spent her early years in the family home on Telfair Street in Olde Town. She graduated from Tubman High School for Girls and then attended Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, earning her baccalaureate in 1957. She remained an active alumna and supporter of Agnes Scott for the rest of her life.
Jackie was a life-long and devoted member of St. James United Methodist Church. She was passionate about researching and documenting the long history of her church, her family, and the Augusta community.
Early in her career, Jackie worked as an educator and then later as the lead school administrator for a small private school in Columbia SC. She was the glue that held together a close-knit community of faculty, students and families.
Returning to Augusta in the early 80's, Jackie embarked on a career in residential real estate. In life and in business, Jackie treated everyone with kindness and generosity. As such, she developed lasting relationships with many of the families she helped in buying or selling their home.
She was a loving and supportive mother to her two children. She was also an adoring (and adored) grandmother, who treasured the many days and hours spent with the children. Visits to or from “GranJackie” were always a big hit. In addition to her own family, Jackie became a “second” mother to many of the younger friends she made throughout life. She was known as “Momma Jackie” to many.
Surviving family members include her brother, J. Wade Rountree (Libba) of Canton GA; her two children, Cheryl Andrews of Cumming, GA and John “Sandy” Andrews of Columbia SC; her two grandchildren, Julia Andrews and Robin Andrews, and their mother Virginia Andrews, all of Columbia. She is also survived by an extended and beloved family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her children gratefully acknowledge Rosemary (Cousin Tootsie) Hajostek and Robert & Pam Harwood for their untiring love, close support, and assistance to Jackie during these last few years of her journey.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 2, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Thurman Norville officiating. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors.
