Jan T. Cox

Jan Therese Cox, wife of the late Dr. Frederick E. Cox, entered into rest at home on January 29, 2026.

Born in South Weymouth, Massachusetts, Jan was the daughter of the late Wynford Arsene Pare´ and Mrs. Mary David Pare´. Raised in Brockton, Massachusetts she moved with family to Connecticut, living in New London, Waterford, and Old Saybrook. She attended Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. Following graduation, Jan began a dedicated career in social work.

In an era when such independence was rare, she took a solo journey across England - a bold adventure that remained a lifelong highlight. While living in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, Jan met the love of her life, Fred, on a blind date when he was in the Coast Guard Academy. They married in 1967 and lived along the East coast until Fred settled in Augusta, Georgia in 1977. Jan and Fred shared 55 years of devoted marriage until his passing in 2022.

Jan was a woman of deep kindness, known for her loyalty, trustworthiness, and her unwavering Catholic faith as a member of St. Mary’s on the Hill Catholic Church. While she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and photography, her greatest joy was her family.

Jan was predeceased by her husband, Fred and sister Jacqueline Pare´ She is survived by her son, David (Karen) Cox and daughter, Suzanne (Ryan) Frank. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Susan Lavigne, and nieces Julie (Billy) Aldridge and Katherine (Tucker) Pease.
