Augusta, GA – Jo Ann Bonitatibus, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on July 23, 2025, at the age of 80. She was the soul of her family, a constant source of love, joy, and unwavering strength. Her presence was a gift to everyone who knew her, and her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Born Jo Ann Sabin on June 24, 1945, in Algonac, Michigan, she was the cherished daughter of Eugene and Jean Sabin. She married the love of her life, Ronald W. Bonitatibus, on September 17, 1966, beginning a beautiful love story that spanned nearly six decades, a relationship marked by deep devotion, respect, and admiration. Their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Jo Ann was a dedicated and compassionate nurse, beginning her career after graduating from nursing school at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Later, she returned to her nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical College of Georgia in Augusta after taking time to raise her children. She exemplified the selflessness and care of a true caregiver, and those who had the privilege to work with her felt the warmth of her kindness.
Jo Ann was a lover of life in all its forms. She traveled to five continents, exploring the world and immersing herself in different cultures. Her most cherished trips included visits to the Holy Land and to the Vatican, experiences that deepened her faith and left an incredible mark on her soul. She could often be found in South Florida, enjoying her time with family, on the beach, at a mountain retreat, or wandering through a local craft fair, always seeking beauty in the world around her.
Her love for Georgia Tech was legendary, and she never missed an opportunity to cheer on her team at the games, her spirit and enthusiasm unmatched by all who sat beside her. Jo Ann had a sharp mind and a quick wit, she never shied away from a good trivia challenge, always ready with an answer or a well-timed laugh.
Jo Ann also had a special place in her heart for bunnies. She loved them for their gentleness and charm, often finding joy in their presence. As we go on without her, let us remember her whenever we see a bunny, a small reminder of her gentle spirit and the love she shared with us all.
At home, Jo Ann was the embodiment of care and creativity. She had an innate ability to turn any space into a warm and welcoming haven, often filling flowerpots with vibrant blooms, spreading love and beauty wherever she went. Her love for cooking was unmatched, her kitchen was always filled with the scent of something wonderful, and her table was a place where family and friends gathered, laughed, and created memories.
Above all, Jo Ann’s greatest joy was her family. She was a steadfast anchor, the constant source of warmth and support for all who knew her. Her legacy of love, generosity, and kindness will live on in her children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to experience her love.
