Joan Elizabeth Hardy

Joan Elizabeth Hardy (Spence), 77, formerly of Kinston, NC, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, in Augusta, GA, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Kinston, NC, Joan’s life was deeply rooted in love for her family, her community, and the places she cherished most. She spent her years between Kinston and Wilmington, creating countless memories and lasting bonds with those around her.

Joan was a devoted mother and is survived by daughters, Lisa Spence (Glenn) and Amy Spence Johnson, a grandmother to Molly Johnson Berg and Jacob Fitzgerald Glenn, and a great-grandmother to Bennett Owen Berg and Cooper Jackson Berg.

Joan is also survived by her sister, Anne Hardy Stanley; and her beloved nieces and nephews, William Franklin Stanley III, Brent Hardy Amyette, and Allison Amyette McCarley.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Benjamin Hardy; her mother, Evelyn Bizzle Hardy; her sister, Mary Hardy Amyette; her niece, Cam Stanley Sutton; and her brother-in-law, William Franklin Stanley Jr.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the home of a family friend, 2002 Greenbriar Road in Kinston, NC, for a visitation and celebration of life honoring a woman whose love, humor, and caring spirit left an unforgettable mark on all who knew her.
