JoAnn Brown Griffin

Mrs. JoAnn Griffin at the age of 91 entered into rest on December 16, 2025. Mrs. Griffin was the wife of the late Mr. Berry L. Griffin, Jr. and the late WOJG Herbert W. Simmons, Jr.

She was a native of Macon, GA having lived in Augusta since 1969. Mrs. Griffin worked as a church secretary for Second Baptist Church and Baker Woods Baptist Church for 31 years, retiring in 2000.

She is survived by her children – Jimmy Simmons (Joy), Alan Griffin (Angie) and Julie Griffin Cathey (John). In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren – Erin Simmons Wilder (Whit), Bailie Simmons Ussery (David), Andrea Griffin Bird (Patrick), Alex Griffin (Brooke), Meagan Cathey Salmond (Ivan), William Cathey and great grandchildren – Ellie Kate Wilder, Lilly Grace Wilder, Simmons Ussery, Boyd Ussery, Adalyn Bird, Griffin Bird, Lincoln Griffin, Kennedy Griffin and Harrison Griffin. Also survived by a sister-in-law, Florence Brown. In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Griffin was predeceased by her parents Mr.& Mrs. Bernard H. Brown, her siblings and their spouses Curtis Brown, Herman Brown (Anese), Ronald Brown (Peggy), Loretta B. Dixon (Russell).

The family will conduct a private service at Westover Memorial Park at a later date. The family appreciate the care shown to Mom by the staff at Camellia Walk Assisted Living facility.
