Joann Rock

Joann Cone Rock, affectionately known as JoJo, passed away on July 20, 2023, at the age of 54 surrounded by family and friends in Marietta, Georgia after a courageous and hard fought battle with breast cancer. Born on October 17, 1968, in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Paula and Joe Cone.

Joann loved the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip and the quaint sandy beaches of Edisto Beach, South Carolina and Dog Island, Florida. An avid Ohio State fan, Jo Jo could be heard yelling “Go Bucks!” all football season. She treasured her time with her family at their numerous reunions, and especially loved hosting family and friends for Thanksgiving. Family and friends meant the world to her, especially her uncles UJ, UJ Lite, and best friend for over 30 years, Rhonda Singletary Stephenson. Friends could count on Joann for her kindness and unconditional love - whether they had known her for 10 minutes or 10 years. Known for her wit, Joann loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. An avid card player, she had the most competitive spirit and would light up a room with her beautiful smile. Known to love “Sinatra Saturdays”, Joann loved to eat, drink and be merry. She was a practice administrator for ENT of Georgia for 16 years where she took time to get to know the patients and she was respected and loved by her fellow co-workers. The family would like to thank Dr. Ming Chi at Northside Hospital and Dr. Elizabeth Shaw at ENT of Georgia for the special care they showed towards Joann.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years Matthew Paul Rock of Woodstock, Georgia, mother Paula Beach Cone of Thomasville, Georgia, son, Justin Tyler Leabo (Hannah) of Thomasville, Georgia, brother Joseph “Joey” Randall Cone of Statesboro, Georgia, Brother-in-Law Christopher Andrew Rock (Jennifer) of Nebo, North Carolina and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and her first grandchild expected in October. She is preceded in death by her father Joseph Paul Cone “Big Dad”, her maternal grandparents Dot and Randall Beach and paternal grandparents Betty and Joseph Paul Cone.
