John T. Chandler, Sr.

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Sunday, July 23, 2023, Mr. John Troyce Chandler, Sr., 82, loving husband of the late Barbara Haire Chandler.

John was a native of Fruithurst, AL and proudly served in the United States Army. He was an avid golfer and member of the West Lake Country Club where he played in the Dog Fight Group every Wednesday. He also was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. John was a barber at Fort Gordon for 56 years. After retiring, he continued barbering at his wife, Barbara’s salon with his daughter, Gina.

Family members include his children: Loyce Barton Chandler (Tina), Perry Ward Chandler (Wendy), John T. Chandler, Jr. (Kriston), and Gina Prather (Smitty); grandchildren: Lauren Jean Mathis (Tyler), Chad Barton Chandler, Justin Daniel Chandler, Brandon Terrell Chandler, Blaine Alexander Chandler, Barbara Brooke Chandler, John T. Chandler III, Julia C. Chandler, and William B. Chandler; and sister: Ernestine Lambert (Bill); and his granddog, Tank, who he loved and adored. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Corine Chandler, twin brother, Virgil Royce Chandler, and grandson, Perry Ward Chandler, Jr.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Forrest Page officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. A gathering will be held after the funeral service and burial at the family’s residence, 3506 Preston Trail, Martinez, GA 30907.
