John Roger Seals

Evans, GA – Johnny Seals entered into rest on May 7, 2024, at the age of 69.  He was a loving husband of 30 years to Deedee Holmes Seals.

Johnny was born in Sylva, NC, on August 9, 1954.   He attended Sylva-Webster High School and Western Carolina University.  A skilled golfer, Johnny spent 5 years as Assistant Golf Pro at Harbor Town in Hilton Head and 12 years as Head Golf Pro and General Manager at Midland Valley Golf Club.  After spending many years in the real estate, insurance, and travel industries, he most recently had returned to his true calling of golf instruction at Wedges & Woods.   

Johnny was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir and Christmas Cantatas.  He loved to watch all sports and cheer for the North Carolina Tarheels.  As an avid reader, collector, and hobbyist, his interests ranged from Civil War history, baseball cards, and most recently, flint knapping. Johnny never met a stranger and will be remembered as a gifted storyteller who loved to share his experiences with others.

After bouncing back from heart surgery in 2008, Johnny bravely faced a diagnosis of bile duct cancer in April of 2023. Throughout his battle, he met each day with a positive outlook, touching countless lives with his stories and joy of life. His family would like to thank AO Multispecialty Clinic and Paul Smith of Hospice Services of Georgia for their supportive care.

Family members in addition to his wife include his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Paul Irvin of Ocala, FL; grandsons, Andrew, Sam, and Matthew Irvin, also of Ocala, FL; brother, Tommy (Linda) Seals of Asheville, NC; niece, Regina (Billy) Phillips, also of Asheville, NC; three great-nephews and one great-niece.  He also leaves behind his beloved pups, Yogi and Ziggy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Hilton Seals, his sister-in-law, Dottie Teal, and his niece, Tammy Seals Shephard.

A memorial service to honor Johnny’s life will take place on May 18, 2024, at 11:00 am at Wesley United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Greg Porterfield and Rev. Darnell Teal (brother-in-law). The family will receive friends one hour before the ceremony at 10:00 am.  Honorary pallbearers will be Casey Teal, Mark Teal, Scott Duplantis, Chris Heath, Perry Grose, Matt Clements, Nick Prokosa, and Billy Phillips.
