Hephzibah, GA - Jonaquine Armitage entered into rest Tuesday January 16, 2024.  She passed away of natural causes at her home in Hephzibah, Georgia.  

Jonaquine was predeceased by her loving husband Homer who passed away last year from Alzheimer’s at the Georgia War Veterans home in Augusta.  Born in Matewan, WV on March 18, 1940 to parents John and Quinnie McCoy, Jonaquine grew up in Delbarton, WV with her 2 brothers Eli and Tom.  She graduated with high honors from Burch High School in 1957.  Jonaquine went to Marshall University in Huntington, WV where she graduated with a degree in Mathematics in 1961.

Jonaquine and Homer married in Biloxi, Mississippi on July 18, 1964.  She went on to teach high school math and science during her teaching career.  She and her family had the opportunities to live in Germany and Panama.  Jonaquine retired from teaching in 2001.  She took up sewing and quilting with a community of dear friends in Augusta. 

Jonaquine was a strong woman, a hard worker, stubborn and determined in everything she did and made innumerable sacrifices for her family over the years. 

She is survived by her son: Cory (wife Jessica); two grandchildren: Evangeline and Piper; brothers: Eli and Tom McCoy; and special family members: Jim, Venus, Tiffany and Kyle Wentworth.  She is predeceased by her parents: John and Quinnie McCoy; her husband: Homer and her son: Tony.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Bellevue Memorial Gardens in Grovetown, GA. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 106 SRP Drive, Suite A, Evans, GA 30809.
