Mrs. William Theodore Gary, III, born Judith Wilson McLaughlin, entered into rest on February 22, 2025, at Piedmont Hospital. She was born on March 10, 1934, in Augusta, GA where she lived her full life. She was preceded in death by her mother Catherine Mealing Burns and her husband, William Theodore Gary, III.
Mrs. Gary, Judy, attended Monte Sano Grammar School and Tubman High School for Girls. She then accompanied her young husband to attend Georgia Institute of Technology, from which she was awarded an honorary degree for countless hours of support.
Judy was a devoted wife as well as a selfless, well-loved mother and “Granny”. Judy forever created an environment of happiness and support for her loved family. Judy was known for her talents in entertaining, cooking, and gardening. Being gracious, she was a true advocate of a “less is more” philosophy of life and she was very intuitive of the needs of others.
Judy was a member of The Church of the Most Holy Trinity, The Junior League of Augusta, and Sand Hills Garden Club. Other memberships include The Augusta County Club and The Augusta Assembly.
Surviving Judy are her three children: William Theodore Gary IV (Wendi), Katherine Gary Hotchkiss (Charles) and Judith Gary Taylor (Donald). She is also survived by four grandchildren: William Gary Salters (Courtney), Judith Gary Rader, Katherine Salters Bodkin (Hobart), and Frank Salters Gary. There are also three great-grandchildren: Calhoun, Phinizy and Grace.
There will be a private service held at the graveside of Summerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Church of the Most Holy Trinity, 720 Telfair Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
