Judith Ann Sheets, 75, wife of the late Richard L. Sheets (Dick), known to her friends and family as Judy, entered into the rest of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Born in Downers Grove, Illinois to Frederick and Patricia Gramse, she was the older sister to her only sibling, Barbara Casey. She was a beloved and devoted member of Westside Baptist Church, in Augusta, GA.
Judy attended Eckerd College and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 1980. She would go on to receive her Master of Arts Degree in counseling from the University of South Florida in December of 1983, and earned her counseling certification in 1984 from the Institute of Biblical Counseling.
Judy’s career and work experiences included time as a special education and substitute teacher, a private Christian counseling practice, and various opportunities in property management and accounting offices. Over the span of 40 years, Judy moved at least 23 times, many throughout the state of Florida but as far north as Connecticut. As with everything she did, Judy embraced each move with joy and enthusiasm. With a keen eye for aesthetically pleasing surroundings, she set out to make each home they lived in beautiful, warm and inviting.
She loved people and easily made friends wherever she went. She always prioritized staying in touch with friends, old and new, and especially with family. Handwritten notes of encouragement in her sweeping, but sometimes hard to read penmanship were Judy’s hallmark.
Judy is most known for leading ladies Bible studies, which she did in just about every place they lived. Well-read and extremely articulate, she used her gifts to write numerous studies as God would lead, or when she was unable to find material that met her discerning standard. She often said that her greatest pleasure was in studying, preparing and teaching God’s Word – that she couldn’t dream of not doing it.
While Bible Studies were her passion, being a mother to Megan was her delight. She was a loving and devoted mother and enjoyed homeschooling her from the age of 7 until she graduated high school. Adding to that delight was seeing God’s provision of Matt as Megan’s mate. Their wedding was one of the highlights of her life.
Judy was a woman of deep and abiding faith that overflowed with the fragrance of Jesus. It was rare to see her without a smile on her face, and such encounters always included mention of the Lord and His goodness. Her love for teaching God’s Word never waned; each topic divinely fitted for the season of life. This was never more evident than the topic for the study she began teaching on January 24th: Heaven. The last conversation between Judy and Mary Sheen, her dear friend of 40 years, took place the evening before Judy passed. Mary said to her, “Just think Judy, you won’t need to teach a class about heaven, you’ll be on the field trip.”
Judy is survived by her daughter, Megan Lee (Matt); stepsons, Toby and Steve Sheets and stepdaughter, Erin Jones (Eric). She is also survived by her mom, Patricia Ann Gramse and sister: Barbara Casey (Dennis).
A private graveside service will be held Friday, February 21, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 3:00 at Westside Baptist Church, 261 Flowing Wells Road, Augusta, GA. 30907.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westside Baptist Church.
