Evans, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, November 28, 2025, Mr. Kenneth Montgomery Johnson, 90, loving husband of Myrta Gail (Sparks) Johnson, father of Judith A. (Johnson) Black, David D. Johnson, Jennie S. Johnson and James A. Johnson, and grandfather of E. D. Johnson, A. I. Johnson, Kourtney A. Johnson, James M. Johnson and Jacson D. Johnson, all of whom survive him.
In 1935, Kenneth was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Robert M. and Virginia A. Johnson. He received his B.S. in physics from Wayne State University in 1957. He had a 50-year career in microwave and electronics engineering with major communications and defense firms. Kenneth also developed and distributed microwave and R/F integrated circuit design software internationally through his company Wavecon. He published over 20 scientific papers and was awarded the Browder J. Thompson Memorial Prize by the IEEE in 1966 for his work discovering the avalanche photodiode signal enhancement effect and related optical communications applications.
Kenneth was a devoted Christian. He attended Dallas Theological Seminary and ultimately received a PhD from California Graduate School of Theology in 1978. His dissertation was entitled The Fall of Babylon in Scripture. Kenneth provided pulpit supply at numerous churches, and for several years broadcast Bible expository teaching on the radio. During their years in the Augusta area, Kenneth and Myrta have both been members of Westside Baptist Church in Martinez.
Kenneth spent time every year leading home Bible studies and singing the old hymns of the faith around the piano. Every time the family went on vacation or car rides, they sang hymns to and from their destination. Kenneth was staunch in his belief that his children should attend Christian schools and that they became involved in campus Christian groups when they attended college. He also made sure that the family attended Bible-believing churches on Sundays and throughout the week.
