L Bridges Evans, Jr.

L Bridges Evans, Jr., known affectionately to his friends and family as Bridges, was called home to the Lord on September 11, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in Augusta, Georgia, on January 13, 1940, Bridges was a man of integrity, kindness, and faith. He passed away peacefully in Greenville, South Carolina, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family, his country, and his Lord.

Bridges was the cherished son of L Bridges Evans, Sr. and Mildred Thomas Evans, who both preceded him in death. The values they instilled in him from an early age were evident throughout his life.

He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Elaine Evans, and together they raised two remarkable sons, David and Craig Evans. Bridges’ role as a father was one of his greatest joys, and he took immense pride in the accomplishments and character of his sons.

He was a graduate of Richmond Academy in 1958, where he proudly played varsity basketball. After completing his education, Bridges served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Army. His service to his nation was a source of great pride and shaped much of his life philosophy.

Bridges had a remarkable career, working only two jobs his entire life, demonstrating his loyalty and steadfastness. He was a man who believed in commitment, whether to his job or his loved ones.

His interests reflected the simple joys he found in life. Bridges loved playing golf for as long as he was able. He was an ardent supporter of the University of Georgia Bulldogs. He believed in the importance of family and cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye.

Bridges is survived by his son, David and wife Susan of Orlando, Fl; son Craig and wife Whitney of Greenville, SC; three grandsons: William, Benjamin, and Bennett; and one granddaughter, Caroline.

Bridges’ life was a tapestry woven with the threads of faith, family, and country. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the love he gave in his time on this earth.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Westover Memorial Park with Dr. Will Dyer officiating.

We celebrate the life of L Bridges Evans, Jr., also affectionately known as Granddaddy; his memory and the love he shared will continue to inspire us all for generations to come. Rest in peace, dear Granddaddy, until we meet again in the glory of God’s kingdom.
