Augusta, GA - Lewis Francis (Frank) Allen, Jr., 85, entered his heavenly home on November 24, 2025, Augusta, GA. Born March 20, 1940, in Clyo, GA, he was the son of Helen Cortez Ford Allen (Davis), Springfield, GA, and Lewis F. Allen, Sr., Clyo, GA. His family moved to Savannah, GA, when he was 9 months old.
He attended Romana Riley Elementary, Chatham Jr. High and was voted “Mr. Chatham” in 1955 by the student body. He graduated from Savannah High School in 1958 and attended Armstrong Jr. College. He later received Computer Programmer training at the IBM System Science Institute in NY in 1965. He was a member of the GA Army National Guard 1959-1967. He easily made friends and found humor in almost everything.
On September 3, 1983, in Savannah, GA, Frank married his longtime friend and the love of his life, Faye Hagan Burkhalter from Statesboro/Claxton, GA, who he knew and was his friend for 17 years, dated 5 years, and then married. They lived in Augusta, GA, for the rest of their lives. They were married for 41 years until Faye went to Heaven on September 4, 2024.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Faye H. Allen; parents Lewis F. Allen, Sr, and Helen C. Ford; sister Judi Allen Amerson; and son Chris F. Allen.
Frank is survived by daughters Carmen Selina Brabham (Kenny), Guyton, GA, and Michelle Elizabeth Friday (Greg), Savannah; sons Kevin R. Allen (Missie) Savannah, and Swint B. Burkhalter, III (Leslie), Lakewood Ranch, FL; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In 1962, Frank was employed with Union Camp, aka Int. Paper, in Savannah. He began his Information Technology (IT) career in 1965 after completing specialized IBM Computer Programmer training. This was prior to Computer Science training being taught in High Schools or Colleges. Anyone interested in an IT career was required to be tested first and then trained by IBM. Frank began writing software and implementing computer programs using Union Camp’s IBM mainframe computer.
In 1970, he advanced his IT career at Gulfstream Aerospace Corp and was their first Programmer / Systems Analyst. He designed, programmed, and implemented computer applications for all Departments, specifically Accounting, and Engineering; and managed the IBM mainframe computer operation.
Twelve years later in 1983 he began his career in Federal Civil Service. He accepted a position at Winn Army Community Hospital, Fort Stewart, GA, and was the first IT person hired when the Division was created. In 1984, he transferred to Augusta, GA, to Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, GA.
In 1986, he advanced his career with Wackenhut Services Inc, as a government contractor at Savannah River Site, SC. Two years later in 1988 he returned to Eisenhower as the onsite IT Manager for Science Application Int. Corp (SAIC).
In 1990 while at Eisenhower, he returned to Federal Civil Service as the senior ranking civilian in the Eisenhower IT Division as the Automation Management Officer. He supervised all systems analysts and help desk employees and periodically served as the interim Division Chief, reporting directly to the Eisenhower Medical Center Commanding General. Frank retired December 31, 2005. His IT career covered 18 years in the private sector, and 22 years in Federal Civil Service.
Frank was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Savannah, and in 1991 joined the First Baptist Church of Augusta, and was a member of the George Balentine Sunday School class. He sang Tenor in two choirs - the FBC Sanctuary Choir for 35+ years, and the First Family Singers for 20+ years that visited and sang at nursing and retirement homes, and he worked in the church Benevolence program providing weekly food for the needy. He was a dedicated Blood Donor, donating 28 + gallons. He loved Savannah, St. Patrick’s Day and the Parade - marched and drove convertibles in Parade, He loved Tybee Island, going to the beach and getting a great suntan, sailing, water skiing, dancing, traveling, going on cruises and bus trips, and being with family and friends. He was known as “The Good Samaritan” for always doing good deeds and helping others. His hobbies were computers and electronics, home improvement projects, and singing in the choirs. He was a skilled handyman. Faye always said he could fix anything. He believed in God and was a very kind, loving and generous man with a great sense of humor, who loved to tell jokes and be in the spotlight.

Frank’s service will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. in the Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Will Dyer and Dr. Roger Murchison officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Garden next to his wife sweet Faye. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
