Mrs. Martha Louise Wardlaw Cook, loving wife of 67 years to the late Dan Cook, peacefully departed her Augusta home for her eternal dwelling in the Presence of Jesus on Sunday, May 5th, 2024. 


Born in 1934 to Samuel W. and Iris Guillebeau Wardlaw; Louise was a lifelong resident of Augusta, where she attended Tubman Girl’s School. As a member of the first co-ed high school class at the Academy of Richmond County, Louise was voted the school’s first honorary female Cadet Colonel. Following high school she attended Augusta Junior College. She and Dan were married in 1954, Dan was drafted into the Army and they moved to Ft. Sam Houston in Texas. After returning to Augusta, Dan and Louise opened National Hills Pharmacy together where she worked as the bookkeeper. Later in life, after raising her children, she went back to work as the administrative assistant to the golf professionals at the Augusta National Golf Club where she served faithfully for 30 years. She retired from ANGC and poured her heart into her favorite role yet, a loving and dedicated grandmother. 


Louise Cook is survived by her daughter, Dawn Cook Jones (Tony); son, Charles “Chuck” Daniel Cook, Jr. (Karen); grandchildren: Cassie Elizabeth Jones, Anna Jones Dinges (Ben), Anthony "Tony" Gene Jones, Jr. (Faith), Davis Jackson Cook, and Jake Turner Cook; and by her cousin, Robert Hawes (Vicky); sister-in-law, Billie Wardlaw and brother in law, James R. “Pete” Cook and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Samuel W. (“Pete”) Wardlaw, Jr. and by her sister, Lula Sue (“Dudy”) Perry; and her brother-in-law, P.G. Perry.


The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, May 8, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The funeral service will be on Thursday, May 9, at 11:00 am. in the Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church with Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tony Jones Jr, Jake Cook, Davis Cook, Bud Wardlaw, David Wardlaw, Mark Sleister, Danny Perry, Carter Timmerman, Brent Timmerman, Josh Gut, Clint Perry and Ben Dinges. Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Nova Sunday School Class.


The family would like to express special thanks to caregivers Rosa Anderson, Sheryl Baker, Lawanna Nugin and hospice nurses Sheree Buford and Ebony Story for the love and sensitivity with which they cared for Louise during her final days on earth.
