Margaret Lee Pope

Modoc, SC – Born in Oklahoma City, Lee’s family soon relocated to Mount Rainier, Maryland, and later to Arlington, Virginia, where she began school at Yorktown Elementary. She became part of history in 1962 as a member of the first graduating class of the newly established Yorktown High School.

Lee went on to attend Lenoir-Rhyne College in North Carolina, where she joined Kappa Delta sorority and was honored as the 1966 May Queen. After graduating, she began her career with the U.S. government while living in Alexandria, Virginia. In 1967, she married her college sweetheart, Mike Pope, and together they embarked on the many moves that come with a football family’s life.

Their journey took them to Florida—including Florida State—then to Texas Tech in Lubbock, where their son Travus was born. From there they moved to Ole Miss in Oxford, where their son Daron was born, and later to New Jersey, that resulted in four New York Giants Super Bowl wins.

During her years in New Jersey, Lee worked as a student assistance counselor at Dumont High School while simultaneously earning her master’s degree in counseling from Montclair State University. She cherished her beach house at “the shore,” and upon retiring, made it her home base. From there she cultivated an active and joyful social life, traveling across the country and around the world to spend time with friends and family.

Lee later settled in Modoc, South Carolina, at her peaceful sanctuary on Lake Thurmond. Her social calendar there remained as lively as ever, enriched by her beloved M Club friends, Fourteen Friends, Kappa Delta sisters, New Jersey friends, and many more. Wanting to be close to her grandchildren, she felt blessed to be part of such a welcoming and vibrant community. Her global travels continued with her sister, Martha Lambie, creating cherished memories together.

Lee passed away on November 20, 2025; she was preceded by her parents Jim and Vivian Lambie, and her beloved sister Mary Riddle.

Lee is survived by her brother, Jim Lambie; her sister, Martha Lambie; her former spouse, Mike Pope; her sons, Travus Pope and Daron Pope; Daron’s wife, Rosie Pope; and her four grandchildren: JR, Wells, Vivi, and Bridget.

Lee loved her family, her friends, and most of all her Lord and Savior Jesus.
