Margie Fairbrother Campbell

Augusta, GA – Margie Fairbrother Campbell, affectionately known as "Monie", entered her eternal rest on June 20, 2025, with her children present after having lived a very full and satisfying life. Monie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.

Born on July 9, 1937, and raised in North Augusta, South Carolina, Monie was one of three children to her parents Elsie Joyner Fairbrother and Howard Fairbrother, Sr., whom Monie now rejoins in Heaven along with her two siblings, brother Howard "Sonny" Fairbrother, Jr. and sister Elsie Fairbrother May.

She attended North Augusta High School. After graduation she was employed as a dental hygienist.

In 1950, Monie met a young man who proved to be the man of her dreams, Walter "Butch" Campbell, Jr. Some years later, on September 29, 1956, the two married. Shortly thereafter, Butch and Monie welcomed into the world their two children, Rusty Campbell in 1957, and Tracye Campbell in 1960. It was a wonderful time as a young family.

In 1974, the family moved from North Augusta, SC to Martinez, GA where they built a home within West Lake Country Club, beautifully decorated by Monie. There, Monie enjoyed socializing and playing tennis. She also happily volunteered as a Pink Lady at University Hospital. The family would regularly visit Edisto Island and spend time along the shores of the Atlantic. Family was always so important to Monie - and having family time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life always served an important purpose.

Years later in the latter 1980's, Monie and Butch moved to Evans, GA on Deerwood Lane, and then later transitioned to a smaller home in Jones Creek. Of course, Monie continued to produce a "wow" factor with her decorating talents and her love of oriental décor within both homes. And boy oh boy, did Monie keep her homes comfortable yet neat and tidy. In fact, the phrase "Monie Clean" became and remains part of both family and friend's vernacular.

And speaking of family, Monie was regularly surrounded by loved ones during her life as she often served as chief babysitter and "go to" confidant for her grandchildren, Jason Campbell, Katie Smith (Tyler), Meredith Carr, Halye Cohen, Alexandra Godsey (Colten); great grandchildren, Parker Campbell, Reid Campbell, Madison Moore (Connor), Jackson Smith, Campbell Smith, Griffin Carr, Gracie Godsey, Olivia Godsey; and great-great grandchild, Elliott Campbell.

Monie was an advocate of, and instilled in her family, the "best foot forward" principle - always believing that there was a first impression being made and one should make the best of it. Proper style, etiquette, and poise were important while never shying away from who you are or what you believe. Monie loved to laugh - often so much so she'd laugh until she cried. Monie was a beautiful person, inside and out. A smile as broad and bright as could be with sparkly eyes, stylish presence, wonderful mind, and heartful soul. A tremendous positive influence on all she encountered and was a complete class act along her journey here on earth. She now shares herself with the dearly departed high above.

Butch, Rusty, and Tracye wish to share their special thanks to The Church of the Good Shepherd, Augusta, GA, as well as to The Reverend Dr. Bunny Simon Williams; The Clairborne at West Lake, Martinez, GA; Trinity Hospice, Martinez, GA; and Piedmont Hospital, Summerville Campus Hospice Unit, Augusta, GA. Each and all have served Monie and the family in ways too numerous to count - but each instance of support was always deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.

Burial service will be conducted at a later date on Edisto Island, SC.

Should you be moved to honor Monie, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make contributions to The Church of the Good Shepherd, 2230 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904, or to any worthy organization of your choosing.
