María Inés Romero-Ospina, lovingly known as Mamaines, passed peacefully on March 30, 2026, at the age of 89. She lived a life marked by unwavering faith, deep love for her family, and a joyful spirit that brought warmth and laughter to all who knew her.

Born on January 28, 1937, María Inés built a life centered on devotion - to her family and to the enduring love she shared with her husband. She and her beloved husband began their journey together in the early years of life, meeting in 1952 and marrying in 1956. Their union spanned 70 remarkable years - a testament to commitment, sacrifice, and a love that only deepened with time.

Together, they courageously left behind their homeland and family, stepping into a new country with little more than faith, determination, and each other. Through every challenge, they built a life rooted in resilience, hard work, and love, creating a legacy that continues through generations.

Mamaines was known for her joyful personality and her gift for making others smile. She had a natural ability to bring laughter into any room – whether through a well-timed joke, a humorous story, or her lighthearted spirit. Music and dancing were among her greatest joys, and alongside her husband, they became a signature part of who they were - bringing life, rhythm, and happiness to gatherings with friends and family.

Mamaines was preceded in death by her father, Jesús María Ospina-Vargas; her mother, Florentina Galeano Sosa; her son, Jorge Alberto Romero-Ospina; and her siblings, Aníbal Ospina-Galeano, Lucía Ospina-Galeano, Rogelio Ospina-Galeano, Darío Ospina-Galeano, Teresa Ospina-Galeano, Germán Ospina-Galeano, Susana Ospina-Galeano, and Jesús Ospina-Galeano.

Mamaines is survived by her beloved son and daughter, Julio Enrique Romero-Ospina and Carole Upshaw Romero; her sole surviving brother, Alberto Ospina-Galeano; and her cherished grandchildren, Alexandra Gabrielle Romero; Jorge Alberto Romero; Andrés Enrique Romero (wife, Sheneil); MacKenzie Lee Cundey; David Hamilton McDaniel; Paul Edward Cundey; Christian Dean Romero; Lawrence Ross McDaniel; Brittany Weathers McDaniel; Lindsey Rahn McDaniel; Daniel Prieto; and Joshua Prieto; and her great-grandchildren, Georgia Marie Cundey; Caroline Elizabeth Cundey; James Ross McDaniel; Lawrence Maximilian McDaniel; Sullivan Elizabeth McDaniel; and Louise Lee Cundey.

Her presence will be deeply missed, but her influence will live on in the hearts and lives of all who knew her.
