Marilyn B. Burg, 90, of Lincolnton, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
Marilyn was born in Rossville, Georgia on October 6, 1935, to the late Harold P. Buck and Nelle Catherine Williams Buck. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and then attended Siena College in Memphis, Tennessee.
Marilyn married the love of her life, Harry (Bud) Burg on September 11, 1956. While Bud served in the United States Army, they moved to Arkansas and then to Wisconsin. Finally, his job took them and their four children to Augusta, Georgia. While raising their children in the National Hills subdivision, Marilyn worked as a bookkeeper for Augusta Bumper & Glass and R. W. Allen. In 1988 Bud’s job relocated them to Camden, South Carolina and there she worked as a bookkeeper for the Forest Lake Country Club in Columbia, South Carolina. Marilyn and Bud loved traveling, which took them on adventures to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, Malaysia and San Diego.
After 39 wonderful years of marriage, Bud passed away on April 22, 1996, which led Marilyn to move to Evans, Georgia to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Shortly after returning, she built a home alongside one of the beautiful fairways of Mount Vintage Golf Club in Edgefield, South Carolina. She lived there for many years before moving to Buck Wells Farm in Lincolnton, Georgia, next door to her son, John. She could be seen daily riding her golf cart around the farm with her faithful canine companion, Trixie. When she wasn’t riding around on her golf cart, you could find her on her back porch watching the hummingbirds, her chickens and the goats next door.
Marilyn was an avid gardener and loved flowers. During her marriage, she and Bud took great pride in building a greenhouse and growing beautiful orchids, which were her favorite. She also loved playing golf and was a member of the Camden Country Club and Mount Vintage Golf Club. While she could, she played in many tournaments in Georgia and South Carolina.
Marilyn was especially talented at designing and creating applique Christmas stockings, tree skirts and door hangings. Each project would require months of meticulous sewing of every bead, sequin and felt objects with the final product becoming a beloved possession of one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Now, every Christmas, her family members will be able to look at their mantles, doors, and under their trees to be reminded of the love that is woven into each piece of her artwork.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry (Bud) Burg; her parents, Harold and Nelle Buck; siblings, Harold Buck Jr., Lt. Col David Buck Sr. (Ret.) USAF, Clarence Herbert Buck Sr. (Betty), Regina Edgman (Victor), Margaret B. Hicks; daughter-in-law, Mickey Burg; mother and father-in-law, John and Mary Burg and brother-in-law, Bill Burg (Eileen) and her beloved dog, Trixie.
She is survived by her children, Joe Burg (Donna), Carol Whisnant (Rosbie), John Burg (Meg), and Jim Burg (Jan); her grandchildren, Stephanie LeRoy (John), Joey Burg (Emily), Deidra Harding (Kevin), Jeff King (Heather), Billy King (Kandice), Trisha Smith, Benjamin Whisnant, Brittany Brown (Mark), and Jamie Burg; 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Tom Hicks; many nieces and nephews; her neighbor, Walt Armour, who was thought of as another son, and her feline friend, Brandy.
Marilyn was a lifelong Catholic and a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Thomson, Georgia. The family extends deepest thanks to Fr. Mark White for his visits and prayers bestowed on Marilyn before and during her illness.
The family will be forever grateful to Madison Heights Memory Care Facility in Evans. Georgia. Marcus and his entire staff showed exceptional compassion, patience and devotion to caring for our mother. Your wisdom and comfort helped us navigate this challenging time. We would also like to thank Bristol Hospice for the kind comforting care bestowed on our mother in her final days before her heavenly journey home.
Although our hearts are forever broken, we are comforted knowing she has been reunited with her soulmate, Bud, and her faithful dog, Trixie.
A private family graveside service will be held at Westover Memorial Cemetery.
Donations may be made in her honor to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
