Martha Louise Lane “Weebee” Britt, 95, beloved wife of the late John M. Britt, entered into rest January 18, 2024. Louise was born April 4, 1928, in Bennettsville, South Carolina, and raised in Ellenton, SC, and Vidalia, GA. She graduated as Salutatorian from Vidalia High School. After moving to Augusta, GA, Louise met the love of her life, Johnny Britt, while working together at S&S Cafeteria on Broad Street at the age of 17. They married January 18, 1946. In God’s divine timing, Louise was reunited with Johnny in Heaven on the evening of their 78th anniversary.
Louise spoke of her childhood often, never forgetting how blessed she was while reminiscing on the “good old days”. She came from a humble, hardworking family and always said they were richer in love than any amount of money could have bought. Because she was one of six siblings, the stories Louise would share had no limit and a recurring theme in every story was the love, kindness, and graciousness embodied by the Lane family. Her five siblings, parents, and friends, and the places in which she grew up truly made her the incredible person everyone knew and loved.
A lover of books, Louise delved into a new novel almost every night. She enjoyed brain teasers, crossword puzzles, game shows, card games, and cooking the most delicious meals. She was best known for her fruit cakes, red velvet cakes, and brownies. If you went to her home, no matter family or friend, you were going to eat the most delicious meal and leave with a container to take home. Louise was the epitome of a southern belle and steadfast in her thoughts. She had a smile that would light up the darkest room, a voice as sweet as sugar, and the warmest heart that cared for everyone.
Louise’s favorite thing of all was taking care of her family. Her two daughters looked to her as their best friend and can never recall her voice ringing of anything except joy, love, and positivity. Louise was known to always give the most sound advice filled with loving, experienced wisdom. She shared an incredibly special bond with her grandchildren who looked to her as a second mom. She spent the majority of her time shuttling them to practices and lessons and was always one of the first to arrive to secure the best seat for herself and the family, usually with snacks in hand. She was known as everyone’s Weebee, always embracing happiness and willing to go out of her way for anyone.
Louise knew the Lord and lived her life in such a way that God calls each of us to live. She was a southern Baptist and member of Calvary Baptist Church. She showed love to everyone through her actions and conversations, always pointing them to kindness, patience, gentleness, humility, graciousness, and joy.
Her beautiful life and legacy will be forever remembered by her children: Linda Britt Bailey and husband Keith of Evans, GA; Brenda Britt Bordon and husband Paul of Martinez, GA; grandchildren: Paul Jonathan Bordon and wife Amber of Evans, GA, Britt Emily Bordon O’Quinn of Martinez, GA, Kerri Bailey Smith and husband Andy of Augusta, GA, and Keith Patrick Bailey of Augusta, GA; great-grandchildren: Chloe Britt O’Quinn, Robert Care O’Quinn, and Kathleen Madison Bailey; great-great-grandchild: Ila Scarlett Taylor; sister-in-law Joan Lane and other loving family members. Louise was preceded in death by her husband John Madison Britt, siblings Florene Mock, Louis Howell Lane, Jr., Mary Rosier, J.C. Lane, Richard Lane, and parents Louis Howell Lane and Fairy Belle “Heidi” Lane.
The family would like to thank the staff at Harrington Park and Affinis Hospice for their genuine care, service, and love given to Weebee and her family in her final weeks.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024; visitation at 1:00 P.M. and funeral at 2:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Paul E Bordon officiating.
