Mary Ann Marge Marriott, age 71, of Augusta, Georgia, died on May 18, 2026 at her home, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Mary Ann was married to her devoted husband, Eric Marriott, for 52 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Gabriel Salvatore “Tony” Marge, her mother Emma Caroline Sharp Marge, and her brother Wayne Anthony Marge. She is survived by her son Timothy Marriott (wife Amy Marriott), her daughter Rachel Landing (husband Chad Landing), and her cherished grandchildren: Addison Marriott, Grayson Marriott, Lily Landing, and Levi Landing.
Mary Ann was born in Salzburg, Austria, in 1955 before returning to the United States. She lived in Ft. Meade, Maryland, until the age of two, then moved to Augusta, Georgia, where she was raised. She graduated from Butler High School and later attended Augusta College, earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.
She dedicated 42 years to the art and profession of teaching. Starting her career teaching 5th grade at Levi White Elementary School then at C.T. Walker Traditional Magnet School. After retiring from public education, she continued her passion for teaching as a 7th‑grade science teacher and Science Department Coordinator at Episcopal Day School, retiring in 2017.
Throughout her career, Mary Ann received numerous recognitions Teacher of the Year (C.T. Walker Traditional Magnet School,1989) Teacher of the year Finalist (Richmond County, 1990), Golden Apple Award Recipient, Georgia Association of Student Councils Advisor of the Year (1995, 1996, 1997) and Who’s Who Among American Teachers (1990, 1992, 1994).
She was an active member of the National Science Teachers Association and was well known for her love of astronomy, often found stargazing with her beloved Star Lab.
Mary Ann treasured time with family and friends. She loved simple, joyful moments—enjoying a sunset, sharing a song or a laugh on the porch, by the pool, or especially at the beach. She was adventurous and always planning her next trip, traveling from coast to coast, from Alaska to Aruba and fulfilling her lifelong dream of visiting Italy with dear friends.
She valued family traditions, often gathering everyone around the table or in the kitchen to make fresh pasta. She never missed an opportunity to support her grandchildren, traveling for soccer games, baseball games, swim meets, water polo matches, tennis matches, dance recitals, and chorus concerts. Her days were filled with exercise classes, crafting, and playing games with friends—always finding joy in community and connection. A lifelong Methodist who regularly attended Philadelphia Methodist Church.
