Mary Peach Clowers was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on Jan 13, 1927.
Mary made the decision on her own to discontinue the process of fighting the continually aggressive lymphoma that was invading her body at approximately 10:45 AM on November 10, 2025, after being in intensive hospital and rehab care for over a month.
As the staff was readying her to transfer to a regular room, she talked to me clearly and sensibly as I continued to watch the vital signs plummet on her monitors. The last thing that she said to me as she strongly gripped my hand was "who is the man standing in the hallway waiting at the door"? There was no one visible to me! The grasp of her hand weakened, and a slight smile appeared on her face as her monitors "flatlined"! I felt like she recognized who was coming to get her.
Mary was a strong "New Englander" and though a resident of the south for over 50 years (mostly in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area), never lost a bit of the "Bostonian Attitude". Married twice to Larry Winn and Joseph Clowers, both deceased, she never had any biological children.
Mary was the youngest girl of four sisters and three brothers, all deceased except for her "baby brother" - John Peach of Beverly, Mass. In spite of the fact that she claimed that she would never be a "Southerner"- she did not want to move back to New England and decided to move to Augusta to be near her niece and nephew - Carol Hall and Jim Cartee, who helped her navigate the challenges of being almost a centenarian!
Other survivors of nieces and nephews (first generation only) are: Lois Morel, Leona Hirtz, Sis Danik, Bob Peach (Deb), Bob Winsor (Deb), Ken McGuire (Karen), Ron McGuire, Mary Forsyth, Elaine Lamarche, Jeff Peach (Nancy), Kim Peach Bougie (Mark), and David Peach (Mattie).
A special "Thank You” to all of the residents and staff of the St. Johns Tower who provided her the warmth and the comforts of home for the last five years – Ramos, Connie, Rose, Bobbie, Clara, and Dale to name only a few.
Services will be held in the dining room of St. Johns Tower on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 5:30 PM with the Reverend Pam Thomas officiating.
