Mary Ann Loucks

Mary Ann (Sauerbrey) Loucks was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the age of 92 years. A devoted Lutheran, Mary Ann’s blessed life was built on her strong foundation of faith in Christ Jesus, along with her more than 68 years of marriage as the loving wife of Donald Dean Loucks. Together, they created a legacy that included two children, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her abiding faith, Mary Ann was known for the selfless care she provided through over 40 years as a registered nurse, as well as her active participation and leadership in politics, first in Wisconsin and then in South Carolina.

On February 5, 1933, Mary Ann was born to the late Henry Otto and Martha Caroline Sauerbrey in Everglade Township, Minnesota. She was the fifth of their 14 children; she also had seven older half-brothers and sisters from her father’s first marriage. She was baptized on June 9, 1933, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chokio, Minnesota, shortly before her family moved to Dairyland, Wisconsin. She was confirmed on September 9, 1947, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kingsdale, Minnesota.

Because Dairyland was a remote rural town without a nearby high school, she moved to Frederic, Wisconsin, in her early teens and became the first of her siblings to graduate from high school in 1951. With her heart set on becoming a nurse, Mary Ann took the next step in her education by moving to Chicago, where she graduated from Walther Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, earning her RN degree in 1954.

After college, Mary Ann moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where she met the love of her life, Dean Loucks, at Bethesda Hospital in January 1957. On June 8, 1957, Mary Ann and Dean wed at “The Little Brown Church” in Nashua, Iowa. In 1959, they welcomed their daughter Beth Ann into the world, followed by their son Steven Dean in 1961.

In 1969, the family of four moved to the Milwaukee area, ultimately settling in Mequon, Wisconsin, where Mary Ann continued her nursing career in a variety of roles ranging from being part of an open-heart surgical team to providing hospice care. When she finally retired from nursing, she worked for the Milwaukee Blood Center. In her spare time, Mary Ann was very active with the Ozaukee County Republican Party and once served as a delegate for President George H.W. Bush at the Republican National Convention in 1988.

In 1998, Mary Ann and Dean retired to McCormick, South Carolina, where they remained very active in politics. In 2005, they relocated to Martinez, Georgia, and then in 2013 to Evans, Georgia. Throughout that time, they were steadfast members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Martinez.

Family members, in addition to her beloved husband, include her dear children: Beth Ann Loucks (John) Berg and Steven Dean Loucks; grandchildren: Sarah Beth Berg (Jesse) Phillips, Rachel Bess Berg, Rebekah Susan Berg (Seth) Jaeger, Patrick James Berg, Ashley Danielle Berg, and Katherine Beatrice Berg; great grandchildren: Isaac James, Julia Beth, Ava Eleanor Phillips, Norah Ann, Silas Michael, Lucy Leigh, and Abel John Mark Jaeger; and God children: Ron Zillmer, Dales Hughes, and Dominic McQuery.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Steven Olson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 A.M., at the church. Interment will follow the service at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
