Mary Louise “Tootsie” Bynum Walsh
Augusta, Georgia
Mary Louise “Tootsie” Bynum Walsh, 79, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Marshall Pines Assisted Living in Evans, GA.
She was born on May 24, 1946, in Chester, SC. Tootsie graduated from Chester High School in 1964. After graduation, she attended the cosmetology school at LaCarnes Beauty School in Rock Hill, SC. For 52 years, she was a hairstylist at salons in Chester, Statesville, NC and Augusta, GA.
Tootsie loved being by the water. She enjoyed time at the beach and on the lake. On Sundays in the Fall, you could find her watching Steelers football. She lived a full life centered around family and friendships.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 33 years, Patrick “Pat” Walsh, her daughter Gina Dover McGowan (Bart) and stepchildren, Brandon Walsh (Dana) and Julie Walsh. She had two grandchildren, Emily Pellegrino (Dario) and Leah McGowan and five step-grandchildren, Ella and Gabe Walsh, Carson, Kaden, and Kinsley Sabo.
In addition to her immediate family, Tootsie is also survived by her sister, Eula Mae Clack (Ralph) and a brother Winfred Davis “Bubba” Bynum, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Geneva and Winfred Bynum Sr. and her sister, Jean Boulware.
A memorial service to celebrate Tootsie’s life will be held at Thomas Poteet & Son Chapel on Thursday, June 4 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
