Mathilde "Teal" Miltenberger Griffin

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Mrs. Mathilde "Teal" Miltenberger Griffin, 83, loving wife of the late Frederic "Bud" Hobson Griffin, Sr.

A devout Catholic, Teal was a native of Mobile, AL and a graduate of Auburn University. Among her hobbies, she enjoyed breeding and showing papillons, and grooming dogs. Teal was also an American Kennel Club judge. She was appreciated for her quick wit, generous nature, and fondness for chocolate. She often joked that "Chocolate is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

She is predeceased by Bud, her loving husband of 24 years; her parents, James and Adeline Rush Miltenberger; her father-in-law, Marvin Griffin; her brother-in-law Ray Griffin; and sister- and brother-in-law, Linda Griffin Meltz and Len Meltz.

Teal is survived by a son, Frederic "Bobo" Hobson Griffin, Jr. of Butner, NC; daughters: Mary-Garner (Jim) Merz of Augusta, and Elizabeth “Lizz” Jeannette Griffin (John Redner) of Burlington, NC. Eight grandchildren knew and loved her as "Fluffy": Caroline (Michael) McAdams, Julia Lopez, Garrett Merz, Catherine (Ian) Fernandez, Isabella Lopez (Kayden Garibay-Shephard), Sarah Lopez, John Frederic Merz and Celeste Merz. She was a great-grandmother to Jeannette and Anthony McAdams. She is survived by her sister, Mary Rush (Bob) Schreiber of Foley, AL; mother-in-law, Estelle Griffin; sisters-in-law, JerryAnn Griffin, Jenny (Gary) Lester, Elaine (Joe) Barton, Sherry (Richard) Holloman, and a great many wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at NHC in North Augusta, SC for their love and compassionate care for Teal over the last few years.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Ross celebrant. Burial will be at a later date in Chatham Memorial Park, 13260 US-64 Siler City, NC 27344.
