Augusta, GA – Michael John Johnson, 84, loving husband of Marcia A. Johnson, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Mike was born in Kewanee, IL. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1959 where he served in many roles including Assistant to Chief Accountant and Accounting Secretary. After retiring from the Air Force, Mike earned an Associates of Arts degree in Data Processing & Accounting from Albany Junior College and later a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with a major in Business Systems & Accounting, from Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, GA. He retired in 2013 as the Chief Financial Officer of Ritz Instrument Transformers, Inc.
Married for over 64 years, Mike and Marcia have been members of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church since 1986 where he was a lector and an offertory-counter. Prior to moving to Augusta, he also served in numerous ministries at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Albany, Georgia. He was the treasurer for both the Dorchester Neighborhood Association and the West Augusta Alliance. He also proudly served as a volunteer board member of the Metro Federal Credit Union.
Mike loved playing golf, working in his yard, enjoying a good cup of coffee, and attending Augusta University basketball games. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Family members, in addition to his wife, include his children: Michael A. Johnson (Linda) and Debra L. Cates (Edward); grandchildren: Jessica Johns (Tim), Patrick Johnson, Justin Gilliam (Blair), Ivy Ward (Austin), Hope Parks (Kyle) and Grant Johnson; great-grandchildren: Everett Gilliam and Avery Ward; and his sisters-in-law: Linda Jane Johnson and Anita Anaya (Martin). He is preceded in death by his parents: Jack and Adella Johnson; and his brother Daniel L. Johnson.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Ross celebrant. The Mass will also be live streamed at https://www.stmaryonthehill.org/livestream. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass, in the Narthex.
