Mildred Blackburn

Martinez, GA – Mildred “Mickie” Roberts Blackburn, 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Reverend Robert E. Blackburn, Sr. for 36 years.

Mickie was born in Columbus, GA on July 14, 1931 to the late Charlie and Oretha Roberts. She attended Valdosta State University and Mercer University, and graduated from Texas Wesleyan University. For 23 years, she taught history at Evans Middle School. Following her retirement, she served on the Columbia County School Board for 12 years and on various state of Georgia committees including the State Teacher Retirement Board.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Augusta for 50 years. She started the Conversational English Class and was instrumental in the creation of the Mission Development Fund. Mickie was also a past president of the Ministers Wives of the Georgia Baptist Convention and she wrote preschool literature for the Southern Baptist Convention.
Not only was she a teacher of history, Mickie was also a student of history and loved to experience it where it happened. She traveled to 48 states and 6 continents by land, sea, and air. Many of these trips were with her family, including “just one more museum…”.
In summary, Mickie’s life could best be described by her motto:
“Make every day an adventure!”
