North Augusta, SC, - Edythe Veal King, died March 18, 2009. Born in Deepstep, Washington County, Georgia to J. Ralph and Mina Ennis Veal.

She was a graduate of Peabody High School in Milledgeville; attended Georgia State College for Women and graduated from Barrett School of Nursing at University Hospital. She remained in the nursing profession, in addition to private duty nursing; until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Austin R. King, Sr. Survivors include her husband: Harry Adams; a daughter: Jan King Hudson (Dr. Howard Hudson) of Augusta; 2 sons: Austin R. King and wife, Nancy of Knoxville, TN and Wayne King of North Augusta; 5 grandchildren: Heather Hudson and Howard Hudson, Jr. of Augusta, Wendy King Fiser of Knoxville, TN, Carter King of Augusta and Katie King of Boulder, CO; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 brother: J. Ralph Veal (Joanne) and 1 sister: Elizabeth Veal Echols, both of Augusta; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

A long time member of First Baptist Church of Augusta; she attended the Anna Bannister Sunday School Class as well as the Clara Wade Missionary Circle. In addition to servicing on several church related committees, she also actively served on the Henri Price Social Committee at the Augusta YMCA. She is also a former member of the Augusta Country Club; a charter member of the Carolina Hills Garden Club and former member of Summerville Garden Club and Flower Study Garden Club. She was also a docent for the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame and Botanical Gardens. As an accomplished musician, she enjoyed performing on her Lowery home organ.

Burial will be private.
