Nancy Jean Wells

Augusta, GA –Nancy Jean Herb Wells, age 81, passed away quietly Saturday morning, June 7, 2025, with the love of her life at her side.

Nancy was born September 28, 1943, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Harold John “Jack” Herb and Christina Elizabeth Herb. She grew up in Bethel Park, PA, then moved to Lake View, NY, where she graduated from Frontier Central High School. Nancy met her future husband Geoffrey while attending Alfred University. They were married on February 6th,1965 in Hamburg, NY.

Nancy quickly adapted to her role as an Army wife, moving the family and setting up a home at numerous military posts across the country and twice in Germany. She managed the family during Geoffrey’s overseas deployments and worked tirelessly to contribute to each community while raising her three sons. Later, her career focused on retail where she excelled in customer relations. Before her retirement, she developed many friendships as a Macy’s associate.

Nancy was a wonderful mother and doting grandmother, always interested in the exploits and accomplishments of her sons, her grandchildren, and her many adopted “sons.” She loved challenging her children with Wordle, was a Zelda champ, and always had a jigsaw puzzle in progress. Nancy especially loved her dogs, adopting many, along with one cat, throughout her life. She was a loving soul who put the needs of her family and friends above her own. She will be dearly missed.

Nancy’s surviving family members include her husband of 60 years, Colonel Geoffrey Wells (Ret.); her sons: John Wells of Frederick, MD, and his wife Melissa, Paul and daughter Katherine; David Wells of Roswell, GA, and his wife Laura; Foster and daughter Taylor; Richard Wells of Roswell, GA, and his wife Jennifer; Matthew and daughter Megan; her sister Donna Skinnell of Bethel Park, PA; her niece Christina Skinnell of Beverly Hills, CA, and her nephew James Skinnell of East Greenwich, RI, his wife Melissa, and her great-nieces Julia and Natalie.

The family will hold a private observance to celebrate Nancy’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to your local animal shelter or favorite charity.
