Paul N. Markel, Jr.

Augusta, GA – Paul Nathan Markel, Jr., 86, loving husband of 56 years to Margaret Marie Markel, entered into rest on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Paul was a native of Harrisburg, PA, and proudly served in the United States Navy for 25 years. Following his naval service, he worked as an electronics instructor at Westinghouse SRS. He was a member of the Augusta Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his daughters: Michele Markel, Hope McMaster (Walter M.), Heidi Berke (Donn B.), Heather Boeke (Todd B.), and Helena Renfro (Todd R.); 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his sister, Grace Cannon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Agnes Markel; his son, Paul Richard Markel; and his brother, Herbert Markel.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son, with Bishop Grover officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
