Peggy Smith

Peggy Oris Boatright Smith, age 91, entered into rest on Saturday, July 5, 2025. She was born and raised in Twin City, in Emanuel County, Georgia and was directly descended from six Patriots who fought in the American Revolution. Her family moved to Augusta in the early 1950s where she met her husband of 65 years and raised a family. She worked at Belk Department Store in the 1950s and 1960s, operated a children’s daycare facility in her home in the late 1960s and 1970s, and later worked at Shepherd Blood Center where she retired. She was a long-time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Caleb Bruce Boatright, and Elma Flanders Boatright, her sister Betty Joyce Boatright, her husband David Phillip Smith, and her daughter Dianne Patrica Smith. She is survived by her sons David Smith, Jr. (Martha) of Union, SC, and Steven Smith (Pat) of Nashville, TN. She is also survived by grandchildren Philip Smith of Augusta, Daniel Smith of Nashville, TN, Kathryn Smith and Joseph Smith of Union, SC, Kevin James of Colbert, GA, and Jeremy James of Abbeville, SC.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907.
