Regina Simione Medeiros

Augusta, GA – Dr. Regina S. Medeiros, DNP, MHSA, RN, 60, unexpectedly entered into rest on Friday, August 15, 2025.

We are deeply saddened to share her passing. Regina leaves behind her beloved daughters, Erycha and Chelsea Medeiros, son-in-law Justin, her mother Rose Simione, siblings Doreen & Scott Generazo and Paul Simione, and her many cherished chosen family and friends.

From a young age, Regina was a spirited rebel with a vibrant personality, always more outgoing than most. She carried that same energy throughout her life, embracing others with warmth and generosity. She was a devoted mother not only to her daughters but also to her chosen family, opening her heart and home to many.

Regina was also an avid gardener and passionate plant lover. While she joked that she didn’t always have the “greenest thumb,” she found immense joy in caring for her plants and cultivating beauty in her surroundings. Her garden at her home was a labor of love she and her daughter, Erycha, shared and became a venue for many fun evenings with family and friends.

Regina lived life with an adventurous spirit and a joyful heart. She loved to travel and explored places near and far—from the rugged beauty of Alaska to the vibrant cultures of Italy, Turkey, and Spain—always with friends or family by her side. She had a fearless ability to make new friends wherever she went and a passion for trying new experiences, whether it was wine tastings, concerts, or simply driving without a destination just to see where the road would take her.

Regina was always up for a laugh, a good time, and knew how to celebrate life to the fullest.

In her professional and personal life, Regina was both an advocate and a leader. She was unafraid to make hard choices, to stand firm, and, when necessary, to be unapologetically strong. Yet her leadership was always rooted in deep compassion, and she carried her identity as a nurse first and foremost. Those who worked alongside her admired her courage, her honesty, and her ability to balance strength with empathy—qualities that made her a force for good and a role model to many.

Regina’s unwavering commitment and passion for her work made her a true champion of the trauma network. For her, there was never “off the clock”—she embodied her philosophy of “do what you love, and you’ll work every day of your life and never regret it.” That dedication left a lasting impact on colleagues, patients, and the systems she helped build, ensuring her legacy of care will endure for generations.

Dr. Regina S. Medeiros, DNP, MHSA, RN, was a distinguished healthcare executive whose career spanned over three decades of unwavering service, visionary leadership, and transformative impact on trauma care systems across Georgia and the nation. A trailblazer in trauma program development and systems leadership, Dr. Medeiros dedicated her life to advancing access to high-quality, coordinated trauma care. Her contributions were recognized through

multiple prestigious awards, including the American Red Cross Nurse Hero Award, Distinguished Member of the Year by the National Disaster Medical System, and several accolades from the Journal of Trauma Nursing and the Trauma Center Association of America.

Dr. Medeiros, most recently, served as Executive Director of the Trauma and Burn Service Line at Wellstar Health System, and previously as Administrative Director of the Adult and Pediatric Trauma Programs at Augusta University Medical Center, where her leadership was instrumental in achieving national verification of its trauma centers. Nationally, she served with the National Disaster Medical System following 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina and contributed as a founding member of Homeland Security.

She also held numerous leadership roles with the Georgia Trauma Commission and the Georgia Trauma Foundation, was an adjunct faculty member at the Medical College of Georgia and published more than 30 peer-reviewed works.

Beyond her many accomplishments, Regina was a devoted mentor who guided and inspired countless healthcare professionals, leaving a legacy of leadership, compassion, and advocacy that will continue through those she taught and empowered.
