Renee Main Foss

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Mrs. Renee M. Foss, 82, beloved wife of Mr. Horace “Tinky” Foss for over 63 years.

Renee was born in Newberry, South Carolina, on June 7, 1943, to Melvin Main and Margaret Perkins Main. She spent some of her childhood in Columbia SC before her family eventually settled in North Augusta SC. Renee graduated from North Augusta High School in 1961. After graduation she worked at Widener Hardware store in Augusta Ga. She met her husband, Horace “Tinky” Foss, on a blind date in 1961. They married a year later in 1962. In 1969 they set out on an adventure of owning their own business, Augusta Auto Supply, using Horace’s knowledge of the auto parts industry and Renee’s bookkeeping skills. Renee was able to work from a home office and enjoy being present for her two children, Tony and Catherine. During their 35 years in business Renee ran the office and brought them into the computer age. These were happy years of learning and growth. Renee and Tinky were able to travel and see many wonderful places. Even though Renee was a successful business owner, her favorite roles were that of wife, mother, and homemaker.

Renee enjoyed cooking, baking, crafting, and gardening. As a young wife she learned to cook from her mother-in-law, and soon perfected her cornbread dressing which became a favorite staple at Foss family holiday meals. Renee loved hosting Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter celebrations. Even weeknight dinners and Sunday lunches were made special with her amazing talents in the kitchen. Her pound cake was highly requested by family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Renee always made extra room at the table for neighbors and friends at a moment’s notice. Her joy was hosting and making others feel welcome.

Renee loved gardening in her yard. She could spend hours digging, planting, and nurturing her many flowers. When Horace and Renee moved to a house on Lake Royal in Columbia County in 1987, she hit the gardening lottery! She quickly filled the acreage around their home with beautiful flowers and shrubs, her favorites being roses and day lilies. She was a member of the Augusta Council of Garden Clubs and enjoyed meeting other local gardeners and participating in gardening events.

She was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed singing in the choir and serving in the nursery and preschool ministry while raising her family. When her children were grown she threw her energy into directing the senior adult ministry at the church called “Young at Heart.” Her care for them was evidenced by her ability to listen well and identify their needs, and her careful attention to planning events that promoted community and connection. Her ministry to senior adults was a blessing to many and a wonderful example of service for her children.

In 2000, Renee attained the role of grandmother and officially became “Nanny.” She cherished this role the most and enjoyed spoiling her five grandsons and one granddaughter, often keeping them as infants, or when they had to stay home from school because they were sick, or any time that she just wanted to spend time with them. Her grandkids knew that spending the night with Nanny and Papa meant staying up watching movies past their bedtime and enjoying “hotcakes” for breakfast fresh off the griddle in Nanny’s kitchen. She never stopped nurturing her two children and their families. When someone got the flu or had a minor surgery, she was the first to show up with a pot of homemade soup or her famous pound cake. As her grandkids grew up, Renee remained their biggest cheerleader, always being interested in their endeavors and accomplishments.

Renee will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a Jesus follower who was full of life and joy, an outwardly beautiful woman made even more attractive by her inward beauty, kindness, and strength. She served her family and friends with abandon and loved them all so well. She will be greatly missed on this side of Heaven.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Foss is survived by son: Tony Foss and wife Tammy; daughter: Catherine Edmonds and husband Josh; grandchildren: Bailey Edmonds and wife Katie, Noah Foss, Taylor Edmonds, Wesley Foss, Caitlin Edmonds, and Caleb Edmonds; brothers: Malcolm Main and wife Victoria, Richard Main and wife Paula; and other loving family members.

The funeral service will be held Monday, April 13, 2026, at 11:00 A.M at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Gordon Robinson and Pastor Tony Christie officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
