Entered into rest on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Dr. Robert Joseph Kaminski, 77.
After graduating from Tulane University School of Medicine, Dr. Kaminski did a surgical internship followed by residencies in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. After completion of postgraduate training and certification by the American Boards of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, he served as Assistant Chief and later Chief of the Nuclear Medicine Service at Walter Reed. Dr. Kaminski left the military in 1980 and practiced medicine in Louisiana and Ohio for the next 9 years. He returned to the military in 1989 and was assigned to Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, GA where he served as Assistant Chief and later Chief of Nuclear Medicine. He was promoted to Colonel in 1994 and retired from the Army in 1999 with over 20 years of active service. Following his military career, he joined the Radiology Faculty at the Medical College of Georgia. He was named a Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Nuclear Medicine in 2001 and retired from the Medical College of Georgia in 2009.
Dr. Kaminski was married to his JoAnn, for over 50 years and they lived in the Augusta area for over 30 years where they enjoyed spending time with their children, Joe and David, and grandchildren, Cara and Candice. He was exceptionally proud of his grandchildren. Candice has followed in her grandfather’s footsteps and is a resident physician at Yale University and Cara just graduated from Brown University and will be pursuing Veterinarian Medicine. Dr. Robert Kaminski was involved in various civic, fraternal, and church activities throughout his career.
Family members include his wife JoAnn Buttross Kaminski; sons: Joseph Kaminski (Della) and David Kaminski; grandchildren: Candice Kaminski and Cara Kaminski.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Fr. Tim McKeown as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in St. Teresa Columbarium.
