Robert Matthew Long

Martinez, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, May 11, 2026, Robert Matthew Long, 82, loving husband of Barbara H. Long.

Robert proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star. A longtime member of Abilene Baptist Church, he served as a deacon for many years. He enjoyed fishing and loved his family.

Family members include his wife: Barbara H. Long; daughters: Lisa Long and Lynn Hays (Jeff); grandchildren: Matthew Hays (Rebekah), Morgan Hays, and Mallory Hays; great-grandchildren: Bennett Hays and Winston Hays; and brother Roy Long (Jo Ann). He was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling and Neloise Long; and his sister, Marie Saxon.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Abilene Baptist Church with Dr. Brad Whitt and Dr. Josh Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow in Abilene Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Saxon, Wesley Saxon, Alan Saxon, Brett Cooper, Brandon Cooper, and Clay Carswell; honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Abilene and the O’Leary Sunday School Class.
