Robert Lee Mapp

Robert L. “Bobby” Mapp, 81, entered into rest peacefully at his home on Friday, November 28, 2025. The world became a little quieter with the passing of a man who lived louder, brighter, and fuller than most ever dare. A man with a wild spirit—and more lives than anyone could have imagined—he met every chapter of his journey with fire in his heart and stories worth retelling.

He truly did everything. Not just because he could, but because he believed life was meant to be lived without holding back. Whether he was out in the woods hunting, on the water casting a line, or in the kitchen cooking meals for the people he loved, he brought passion, skill, and joy to everything he touched.

Bobby was born on December 8, 1943 in Augusta, GA to Legare and Roberta Mapp. He graduated from Aquinas High School in 1961. He later attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC and then joined the United States Marine Corps. With drive, perseverance, and determination he went on to sell insurance and later started many businesses including selling fertilizer, logging timber, and buying real estate. Bobby’s hard work was something to admire and he attributed his success to the love, kindness, and discipline instilled by his parents, whom he absolutely adored. His greatest joy was marrying the love of his life, Katherine Campbell, in 1966.

He loved traveling the world—always ready for the next adventure, whether it was a fishing trip, a hunt, or a card game where, as he loved to say, he would “take all of his friends’ money.” His humor, competitiveness, and love for a good story made every trip unforgettable.

Edisto Beach played a huge part in his life. It was the heartbeat of family memories, where summers were spent relaxing on the beach, boating, fishing, crabbing, and flounder gigging late into the night. Those moments shaped his children, enchanted his grandchildren, and became traditions that will be carried forward for generations.

He loved deeply and widely, and he leaves behind a family who meant the world to him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Legare Mapp, his sister Nancy Justice, and Son-In-Law Mike Smith. He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine Campbell Mapp, and his children: Kim Dorr, Ann Smith, and Lee Mapp.

He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Nigh Dorr (Ashley), Katie Dorr, Will Dorr (Lauren), Cami Gibson (Nick), Grey Surles, Michael Smith (Maddie), Tommy Smith, Tripp Mapp, Martha Dawson Mapp, and Anne Holder Mapp, and a joyful great-grandfather to Riley Hauser, Smith-James Gibson, Hampton Gibson, and Griffin Dorr. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and friends who became family over the years.

He brightened countless lives, changed many more, and made everyone who knew him feel a little more alive. His stories, his laughter, and his love will continue to echo through the generations he leaves behind.

Though his time here feels far too short, the way he lived made it rich. He will be missed beyond words, remembered beyond measure, and loved beyond time.

The family would like to thank Drs. Ray Johnson, Michael Johnson, David Squires, and Joe Jackson Jr. for their kindness and care over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or the Department of Natural Resources, who can finally rest after years of chasing this LEGEND!

Family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Thomas Poteet & Son on Monday, December 8, 2025.
